When the same resource is linked to multiple gateways, Cipherscale utilizes High Availability (HA) modes to determine how traffic is routed. It can load balance traffic over all active gateways or route based on gateway priority.
Overview
When the same resource is linked to multiple gateways, Cipherscale utilizes High Availability (HA) modes to determine how traffic is routed:
-
Automatic High Availability: Cipherscale dynamically selects one or more available gateways that can reach the resource and load-balances the traffic. The platform automatically evaluates the data speed and performance of the available gateways, prioritizing those that offer the best connection for the user and avoiding gateways that provide worse performance.
-
Manual High Availability: Administrators can choose to manually prioritize the list of gateways connected to a resource. In this mode, Cipherscale will always attempt to route traffic through the highest-priority gateway first; if that gateway is unavailable, it will automatically fail over to the next gateway in the priority sequence.
Automatic High Availability mode is selected by default.
The Intent: What the AI Needs
-
Resource Name: The name of the resource to update
-
Mode: The HA mode to set (Automatic or Manual)
Note
The HA mode only applies when a resource has 2 or more gateways assigned to it. If only one gateway is assigned, the setting has no effect.
To set the priority for manual mode, the intent needs:
-
Resource Name: The name of the resource
-
Full Gateway Order: Complete ordered list of ALL assigned gateways (1st GW-US-East, 2nd GW-EU-West, 3rd GW-Asia)
Note
You must provide the full priority list of all gateways — not just the one being moved. Omitting a gateway from the list will remove it from the resource.
Switch to Automatic mode:
-
"Set high availability mode to Automatic for resource 'HR Portal'"
-
"Change load balancing to Automatic on the Salesforce resource"
Switch to Manual mode:
-
"Set high availability mode to Manual for resource 'HR Portal'"
-
"Change load balancing to Manual on the Zendesk resource"
Reorder gateway priorities for Manual mode:
-
"Set gateway priority for resource 'HR Portal': 1st GW-US-East, 2nd GW-EU-West, 3rd GW-Asia"
-
"Change gateway order for Zendesk resource: primary GW-London, secondary GW-NewYork"
-
"Make GW-Asia the highest priority gateway for the Salesforce resource"
Note
For Manual mode, always specify the full priority order of all gateways — not just the one you're changing — so the system knows the complete desired sequence.
Combined Operations
-
"Assign 'GW-US-East' and 'GW-EU-West' to HR Portal and set mode to Manual with GW-US-East as primary"
-
"Switch Zendesk resource to Automatic load balancing and add SaaS-Gateway to it"
-
"Remove GW-Asia from HR Portal and set the remaining gateways to Automatic mode"
The HA mode is a per-resource setting — it controls how Cipherscale selects among multiple gateways assigned to a specific resource. To visually check the status using the Details panel, go to Resources (Private, SaaS, or Internet), click on a specific resource to open its detail view, and look for the High Availability mode displayed in the Gateways section.
